![]() JUNE 2021- Welcome to my June newsletter! This Memorial Day, I am reflecting on the many men and women that have sacrificed their lives for our own freedom. As a daughter of an Army veteran, I am so grateful for those who serve in the military. I would also like to take a moment to congratulate all our high school and college graduates as they commence a new chapter of their life. After a challenging school year, each of these students deserve congratulations! DRAFT BUDGET PRESENTED The city of Laguna Niguel presented its draft budget at the May 4 meeting. The balanced budget pending approval has a $51.1M operating budget, does not utilize reserve funds (currently at 93% of operating budget) and sets aside $250,000 to go to reserves and $350,000 to reduce pension liability. The Capital Improvement Plan is $5.1M. The budget is scheduled for a vote on June 1. PROCLAMATION SUPPORTING KINDNESS GETS SUPPORT OF COUNCIL DESPITE UNKIND 2020 ELECTION, EXCLUDES LGBTQ COMMUNITY The City council supported a proclamation that says it “values the varied racial, ethnic and age makeup of our residents . . .” excluding the LGBTQ community, ironically during upcoming pride month. It also stated that “acts that serve to diminish respect . . . have no place in Laguna Niguel” despite the fact that multiple council members told election lies and benefitted from graphic misrepresentations.
